WVU Community Engagement VISTA

"I promote state student retention and recruitment."

  1. Why WVU AmeriCorps VISTA? 

    I care about the community I am a part of, and I want to contribute to making it better as a VISTA. 

  2. One goal you would like to accomplish in your year of service?

    I'd like to contribute to rolling out a big community involvement event!

  3. Fun Fact!

    I have been performing in theatre productions since I was 9 years old. I am also a professional make-up artist.

The Rack: WVU Student Food Pantry

"I promote food security for students at WVU"

  1. Why WVU AmeriCorps VISTA?

    I have an interest in food justice and this particular role was a good fit. Before applying and becoming a VISTA, I was a student at WVU and doing undergrad research at the Food Justice Lab. 

  2. One goal you would like to accomplish in your year of service?

    I would like to continue working to ensure the The Rack is a successfully serving the students, especially with the opening of our third location. 

  3. Fun Fact!

    I was captain and of the WVU Women's Rugby Team before I broke my arm.

WVU Extension VISTA

"I promote civil rights compliance in all WVU Extension programs."

  1. Why WVU AmeriCorps VISTA?

    I was looking for something to do while finishing my thesis and I liked the experience I could gain while serving with Extension. 

  2. One goal you would like to accomplish in your year of service?

    I would like to support Extension to pass our USDA audit. This audit is critical and also demands a lot of preparation.  

  3. Fun Fact!

    I bake fancy cakes sometimes!

"I encourage students to better help the Morgantown community."

  1. Why WVU AmeriCorps VISTA?

    I had just graduated from college and needed a job shortly after. VISTA was a good opportunity for me. 

  2. One goal you would like to accomplish in your year of service?

    I would like to encourage students to serve in the Morgantown community. I'd also want to be able to be financially secure. 

  3. Fun Fact!

    This is my third and final overall year as an AmeriCorps VISTA!

Health Sciences VISTA

"I am improving access to healthcare in West Virginia."

  1. Why WVU AmeriCorps VISTA?

    I heard about this position from my current supervisor, and I loved the project she was working on! I am supporting the WVU School of Nursing to train nurses on how to work within faith-based communities across the state and to improve access to nurse-led-care in rural areas. 

  2. One goal you would like to accomplish in your year of service?

    I would like to raise awareness about the project I am working on.

    I am double jointed!

Service-Learning VISTA

"I assist faculty, students, and organizations by supporting mutually beneficial relationships in the local community. "

  1. Why WVU AmeriCorps VISTA?

    I enjoyed the sense of service and community during my first AmeriCorps service term and wanted to pursue a career in public service.  

  2. One goal you would like to accomplish in your year of service?

    I would like to build on the skills I have gained while serving at the Center for Community Engagement. 

  3. Fun Fact!

    I have been to eight state parks this year!

Energy Express VISTA

"I help spread the word about our summer reading program, Energy Express."

  1. Why WVU AmeriCorps VISTA?

    I already knew the positive impact AmeriCorps could make on a community and wanted to play a more significant role in fostering that impact. 

  2. One goal you would like to accomplish in your year of service?

    I am committed to sharing the amazing opportunities involved in community engagement and volunteerism, while advocating for the outstanding programs and organizations West Virginia has to offer.

    I like wearing and making funky earrings!

"I help to alleviate health disparities in West Virginia."

  1. Why WVU AmeriCorps VISTA?

    I applied for this position because I wanted to help alleviate poverty in West Virginia. 

  2. One goal you would like to accomplish in your year of service?

    I'd like to gain experience working in a professional setting.

    I love gardening and would like to have a hobby farm someday!

Community VISTA

  1. Why WVU AmeriCorps VISTA?

    The position was a wonderful opportunity to serve and benefit my community. Prior to joining, I was an Extension camping instructor over the summer for 4H. I also refereed soccer games through NFHS.

  2. One goal you would like to accomplish in your year of service?

    I would like to help guide middle and high school students to stay away from substance abuse. 

  3. Fun Fact!

    I have been a member of 4H for 10+ years!

  1. Why WVU AmeriCorps VISTA?

    Applying to and joining AmeriCorps to serve was my big break!

  2. One goal you would like to accomplish in your year of service?

    I want to get back on my feet financially and also make a noticeable impact in my community. As a business major, I am eager to learn how to promote and plan events. I am excited to make an impact within the PSC student body, specifically by raising awareness on AmeriCorps, ensuring their voices are heard, and encouraging them to see the potential they have to make an impact in the world!

    I started my own woodworking business in high school and it is still going strong.
