A WORD FROM OUR DIRECTOR

This year was one of resolve and dedication for the Center for Community Engagement. It was a year of change, but it also sharpened our focus and reinforced our commitment to the people and communities we serve. 

We strengthened our emphasis on civic engagement through the Campus Action Plan, creating clearer pathways for students to learn, participate, and lead in ways that matter. At the same time, we invested in relationships with community partners by showing up consistently, listening closely, and following through. That steady work strengthened partnerships and built trust, setting the stage for deeper collaboration ahead. 

As we move forward, we carry the momentum of this year with confidence. The work is growing, the purpose is clear, and our dedication to meaningful community engagement remains at the center of everything we do.

Community Partner Program

Through the Community Partner Program (CPP), the Center for Community Engagement builds reciprocal, mutually beneficial partnerships with community leaders across West Virginia and beyond. The program recognizes community partners as educators, experts, and essential collaborators in student learning. Community partners benefit from access to university resources, while students gain meaningful, hands-on experiences that connect classroom learning with real community needs. 

During the 2024-2025 academic year, the CCE partnered with the Morgantown Citizens Academy, a free ten-week program open to the public that offers a behind-the-scenes look at how city government operates. Through the Center for Community Engagement's CP program two seats were reserved for WVU students.

COMMUNITY PARTNER PROGRAM

Through the Community Partner Program (CPP), the CCE focuses on reciprocal, mutually beneficial partnerships with community leaders across West Virginia and beyond. The CPP centers learning, shared leadership, and co-creation, recognizing community partners as educators, experts, and essential collaborators to our work.

From informal coffee chats designed to share updates to more formal learning opportunities, community partners are able to leverage university resources to enhance their work. In turn, students are able to engage in rich learning experiences, receiving guidance from those working directly in the field.

SERVICE LEARNING

The CCE works with WVU faculty/instructors to tailor courses to meet both the needs of the community and the needs of WVU students through meaningful experiential learning opportunities.

Courses that engage students in the community through volunteering, public service, campaigning and outreach are encouraged to be evaluated for an S designation.

PURPOSE2ACTION PROGRAM

WVU Purpose2Action (P2A) is a paid community engagement program that places undergraduate students with nonprofit and public sector organizations to work on defined, mission-driven projects.

P2A expands access to meaningful experiential learning, particularly for students who face financial barriers. Through paid placements, students gain professional experience while supporting the work of WVU Center for Community Engagement partners that serve the needs of communities across West Virginia.
